I've never taken a PEVE course on moodle before. How does moodle authenticate users?
Moodle authenticates PEVE users using login details generated from a legacy system called Bodington. Originally this was to allow users to move between the two systems without having to remember two different username and password combinations.
Three days before your course starts and on the day the course starts, you should be automatically sent an email telling you what your username and password is to access moodle. If you have strict junk mail filters on your email server/client, you may need to switch these off or check your junk folder to ensure you do not miss our email.
If you fail to receive your login details please contact pevesupport@cs.man.ac.uk letting us know your full name and the course(s) you are registered on.
I've forgotten or don't know what my moodle username or password is?
Three days before your course starts and on the day the course starts, you should be automatically sent an email telling you what your username and password is to access moodle. If you have lost this email please contact pevesupport@cs.man.ac.uk letting us know your full name and the course(s) you are registered on and we will resend your details.
Changing your password
Unfortunately for historical and technical reasons we currently are unable to let users change their own passwords. It is therefore important that you keep a record of the password sent to you.
What web browsers work with moodle?
The moodle environment can accessed through any up-to-date web browser, however, we would recommend using either:
- Mozilla
- Firefox
- Internet Explorer
Other browsers may be used though some features, in particular moodle's HTML editor, may not be available. You can access moodle from anywhere (e.g. within the School or from your home computer). Access is controlled by a username and password for each registered user (see below).
How do I log into moodle and find the moodle area for my course unit?
-
To get to the moodle login screen, point your web browser at:
http://octette.cs.man.ac.uk/moodle/ -
Your username and password will have been sent to you just before your course starts. Enter these into the login box and select the Login button. If you had problems logging in, check that the caps lock key on your computer keyboard is off and that you use the correct combination of lower case and capital letters in both your username and your password.
-
After successfully logging into moodle for the first time, you will be presented with a web form to complete some or all of the following details in your moodle profile.
- Add you first and last names;
- your email address;
- the city/town where you live (for most people this will be Manchester);
- and add a short description of yourself.
- You can also (optionally) upload a small photograph to personalise your moodle account.
- Select the Update profile button to complete your moodle registration.
-
Assuming you have made no errors when completing your moodle profile, the next page to appear will be the moodle home page. Information about how to locate your course site can be found in the Getting started with moodle page "Finding your course".
