JITT:About
From JITT
JITT is a wiki hosted in the School of Computer Science at the University of Manchester.
JITT is an instance of a mediawiki. The wiki should be called something like the Social Software Wiki, but instead it's called JITT. If you're wondering, JITT stands for Just-In-Time Teaching. We just had this wiki 'lying around' when we needed one for a workshop series on social software, and in the best of traditions we recycled it just-in-time to support the workshop series. We could have renamed the wiki, but since the name was kind of appropriate, we just left it as it was (nothing to do with laziness or overwork or anything like that, honest!).
Geek talk
If you think that you are getting a reasonable response time out of this, it's because JITT runs on a six processor server called octette (we still need to buy two more processors to make octette worthy of the name). Octette uses a RAID 5 array to store JITT, and that probably adds to the speeed too. Cannily, we bought octette off ebay as apart of a former grant.
And because our Dell SCSI controller failed we are now running off a single IDE drive. So it may be a bit slower.
